Don't you all feel you know so much, but at the same time know so little? I mean I don't suffer from any lack of self confidence as far as my work is concerned, but sometimes I feel I'll never be able to really learn everything I need to know and be able to earn a living at the same time!

Yep I know what you mean. At least I think I know what you mean? I know, that the more I learn the more I find out how much I don't know. I was tempted once to have a shoeing book out on my tool box as I was shoeing. :D

Somewhere on this site Ray Miller has a "you might be a horseshoer if..." list; one of the ifs is as every year goes past, you know fewer and fewer sure fire ways to fix a foot problem.
Ironicly, I had a proffesor tell me once that America had never produced a true philosopher, along the lines of Neitchzse, Kant, Locke, Hobbes. He said if you are so busy trying to live, you never think about why you live. The closest was Ayn Rand, and all of her novels are about the best way for the indivdual to assume responsiblity for his own lot- ie how to work! We are all in that boat in this proffesion. We as farriers are a very practical lot, and if it works, we tend not to tinker with it, or delve beyond the face.
