I do not own stock in VetTech, and I would like to relay some success with the product that may go untried.
often one runs into hooves with small chips and deformities along the shoe and hoof interface. Rather than allow these to remain and hope they fill in naturally, I apply a thin layer of Adhere to the hoof before nailing on the shoe. The shoe stays on far better and the hoof grows out better than without the use of this product.

Hi Dr. Meyers,

Don't wave their flag too much! We don't want them to make it any more expensive then it is already! I wonder if the adhere is that much better than Equilox is. (Although I use Adhere)

Personally I like the clear hoofpack best. I have to admit this is the no. 1 stuff sofar. If this would be cheaper I would use it a lot more!

Roanld,
Man, you are not kidding. I shoe a gelding with a FLAT PIII, that I have used a NB type concave on that a couple doses of Equipak pumped in as frog support would really help. The owners are the nicest people you could ever meet, but not wealthy. I already do not charge for the shoes, just the reset... I just am not philanthropic enough to donate the $34 every time on the equipak and tips. Maybe I will the next time as a Christmas gift.
That raises a question I have had; he is bedded in straw, and has a mushy, split frog with layers of cracks and crevaces that I cannot get rid of. This is partly due to the smashed back half. Should I use an antiseptic, or fill the frog mess with sav-a hoof before I cover the foot with equipak? I do not want to rot the darn thing completley off!

Hi Jason,

On a poor frog when it's somewhat trush related (to the vets out there: only a shoer will know what I mean) that I have to cover with hoofpack, put some Drycow in the middle sulcus. (Drycow is that penicillin farmers use in utters of cows when they stop giving milk until the next calf is born) When it's really messy I poor iodine over the rest of the frog and put some cotton on it. That I cover with a adherent bandage. (I thought that sounded better than ductape). Then I get the hoofpack in. This works pretty good. Frogs come out very good.

Applying Adhere or the superfast around the the foot works very well. I do it alot, most of the time at no extra cost. I like to use Equipak also, but like everyone else I find it difficult to keep on doing because of the cost. Myron Maclean pads with Equipak work well and you can reset the pads. Just fill to the level of the pad. Another idea I picked up at a seminar for frogs that are deep and atrophied and do not contact the pad, is to put playdoe on either side of the frog, drill a hole in the frog support part of the pad and fill with Superfast to get frog contact. Only do this on a clean/healthy frog. I find if I use Equipak under a full frog support pad it can get moist and messy by the next shoeing. You use less Equipak with a Myron Maclean pad and it is excellent support. The pad can be used with an open shoe or a Bar shoe, Myron preffers to use and open shoe. This is a great way of providing support, keeping the cost down, the foot healthy and it is easy to apply.
