View Full Version : AFA - Save money???

It costs the AFA $1.70 postage to send a hard copy of "No Hoof - No Horse" to my house - not to include the cost of printing, paper and handling. I have e-mailed the office a few times they could just notify me by e-mail when it is available on the AFA homepage. But here the middle of May I received the April edition. Why??? The dues went up, but yet they don't look for ways to save money? I just received a notice if I wanted to renew my membership. Why on this didn't they add a check box if I wanted to receive an electronic copy of "No Hoof - No Horse"? Would have been too easy.
This is the second time I have been an AFA member - first time I let it drop. I believe there is a lot of good, but hey when they don't listen to the members what good does it do? How much could they save if more choose an electronic copy? What other ideas do other members have to save money?

Because you are a member of the association you are entitled to certain things.
When the AFA gaurentees things we have to deliver them regardless of the situation, some goofy American law about delivering what you promise.
While the dues increase is a ****py deal and the way it was presented was a B.S. way of doing it, for some reason it still passed.

My phone provider promises to send me a bill in the mail and they keep that promise, they also give me the option paying the bill on-line to save paper. I think it is a great idea to give AFA members the option of saveing paper and cost to the AFA. Still keeping there promise by provideing a product and saveing cost and material.

That would be all well and good Phil if the AFA had the staff that AT&T did.

T.N. you young wipper snaper.
Mikil and Phils right this would be a good idea and it would take less staff to do it.
Its as simple of adding names to a group E-mail list attaching a file to the e-mail and punching a button.
Its done all the time in the coorprate world.
You kids what we going to do with you. :D

I think it takes alot less staff to punch a key board sending e-copies out than addressing, stamping and mailing a hard copy.
And their promise of delivering a product is still met.

If they send you the newsletter in an email, then you STILL have to print it out to take it to the bathroom for reading . . . :D

Thanks to beslagsmed in Denmark for the excellent suggestion of offering the No Foot No Horse newsletter in an electronic version. By Monday (6/19/06) AFA members whose e-mail address is in the database will receive notification that they can go to a link on the AFA web site and select print, .PDF, or both.
Any more good suggestions for improving services or reducing costs?

Mike,
Thanks for giving me a choice to save the AFA money. I just got my e-mail and clicked on the electronic copy. Great step in to the future.

There appears to be a problem for AOL users who want to respond to the electronic newsletter message. Several have reported that the link does not work. We cannot post the link here, because the one sent to you by e-mail included a reference number for your specific membership, so that when you clicked the link, it connected to your page in the membership database.
AOL users who find the link does not work, are requested to send a message to Farriers@AmericanFarriers.org and indicate whether you want the print version, electronic version or both. The office will then enter that response for you.
