Hi all,
We are considering using Equi-Thane Super Fast with our mare who has inflammation/damage to the coffin bone and needs to have her soles lifted off the ground without any pressure on them, and without having to nail shoes on. I was wondering how many hooves a 180cc cartridge would do?
Also, does the material simply fall off after a few weeks or is this removed at each trim?
Thanks very much, it looks like a great product.

Hi Sam,
Calvert, that was my maternal grandmother's maiden name and where I got my name.
Sorry, I'm not a farrier, but If I were, I would need more information. One example: What type of horse is it and what is it being used for? If it is a large draft horse, the SuperFast would be crushed by the weight...unless supported by Equi-Build which bonds to the SuperFast and the sole. In this case, that may be contra-indicated.
To answer your other questions: How many hoofs do you get out of one 180cc Cartridge of SuperFast, goes back to the first question. Type of horse...size of hoof. SuperFast can be rasped, or nipped off. It can also be rasped to clean and more material can added to the surface.
I am in the hope that you will have more posts from farriers and perhaps a vet or two. I'll see if our representative and resident farrier, Tab Pigg, CJF can be of further assistance.
All the best,
Cal Chilton, Vettec

Hi Cal,
Thanks for the reply. The horse is a 14.3hh welsh, weighs approx 450kg. She doesn't have particularly typical 'cob' feet, just average for her size. She's not in work at the minute and is turned out for two hours a day, so she's not doing anything that would excessively wear or damage the SuperFast.
The Equibuild may cause problems if it covers much of the sole, particularly at the toe area, but I imagine this may not be needed with a horse this size?
Thanks again,
Sam

Hi Sam
On a normal foot the size I think you are talking about. A10x23mm shoe of Super Fast you should use about 3/4 of a tube. And I would strongly suggest pouring at least a half pad of Equi Pack or Equi Build. I sounds like the horse may be going through Laminitis. In this case she needs all the help she can get. Be sure not to cover any soft spots or abscess use Play Doh to dam out the areas. After the product cures remove the Play Doh and pack the holes with cotton. This will give you a treatment window later on if you need it.
