Hello, my 13 year old TB cross has just had her X-rays show that she has has slight navicular changes. My Vet has indicated that she needs her Toes shorten and rolled and her heel elevated.

Can you give me some detail on what is involved with rolling her toe. I realize iit is change the breakover when she moves but I have no idea about the process.

Any enlightenment is appreciated

Thanks

The rolled toe on a horseshoe looks a lot like a worn out shoe in the toe area. There is a little more to it than that though. Rolling the toe will ease the break over because the toe is already rounded off. I hope I did not add confusion to your question.

Hi Jodie,

Risking confusing you even more, you may find that your TB does not have enough sole depth left to roll the toe. (Rolling the toe will inevitably reduce foot lenght if the shoe has a proper fit) In such a case you may want to consider squaring the toe, and maybe taper the toe too. If you have to raise heels, (you might!) use wedgepads.
