In mid September, my thoroughbred mare put her hind foot into a hole, and shale that was sticking out of the hole put a big laceration on her leg, which also extends onto her coronet band. Part of the hoof had gotten a little cut up, but that will grow out. The laceration was vertical. The cut is healing great, and I don't think the injury to the coronet band will bring along any other problem than shallow fissure in the hoof. The coronet band where the trauma occured is hard and crusty, and is enlarged. Should this be a cause for concern, is there any way I can get that part of the coronet band back to normal?
Here is a picture of the laceration, though you can't see the coronet injury very well. I'll get a better picture of it tomorrow.
