Usually a sole does not drop (prolapse) past the hoofwall unless the horse has foundered and the coffin bone has dropped down within the hoof, pushing the sole down.
This case sounds like your barefoot "trimmer"(please note.... a "farrier" is one who puts on shoes ,not just does barefoot trims) trimmed way too much hoof wall off.
Horses feet are supposed to SHARE the load on the inner portion of the hoof wall along with the outer edge of the sole. If so much wall is trimmed that the horse has to walk only on the sole, they will certainly be come sore.
I suggest you let this horse grow some hoofwall back, and get someone who is more conservative in their trims on the future .
If you want more personal evaluation of this particular trim ,take some really close up pictures of the feetm, from the side and front at ground level, and from the solar view, on a hard flat surface such as concrete ,and send them to EDSS for evaluation. And if you have Xrays, take a picture of those on the viewer with a digital camera and send them along too. Patty .
