Hello,
I am posting this on behalf of another gentleman. The pictures that I can hopefully attach to this message are of his friends' horse.
We don't know why this horse has lost his hoor; bad infection, injury or some other trauma etc. He is presently on antibiotics, painkillers and lots of bandages and dressing. He will be going to a large animal facility for further assessment and hopefully treatment.
What, if anything, could be offered in the way of supporting this horse while a new hoof is growing out.
Hope you can help and thanks in advance.

What is the interval between the first pic and the third pic? The last photo showing the solar view looks like the tissues are still infected. Hopefully they will do cultures at the hospital facility and determine the cause. Did the horse present with lameness before the hoof loss? The coronet looks like the hair has been rubbed off from extended bandaging. Were these pix taken the same day the hoof sloughed? IF so it doesn't look very promising from the photos. The exposed tissue looks quite necrotic. Definitely an interesting case! How old is the horse? What kind of horse? IS only one hoof affected? Was there a streptococcal infection involved? I think you'll raise more questions here than answers with those photos!

The apparently viable tissue on this foot needs to be biopsied to see if it is granulation tissue or reforming laminae. Too much of a shift toward granulation tissue may not regrow a sufficiently functional hoof.

A friends horse has something terrible happening to his hoof. It started 3 weeks ago with lameness that went away with a few grams of Bute. The Bute stopped working and he started to swell from the pasturn to the cannon. It opened 5 large holes from the pasturn to the coronet with the first opening at the pasturn. These are 3/8 to 1/2 inch holes draining yellow discharge. The rear of the hoof is separated from the coronet about 1" deep and it looks like the whole hoof is coming off. He is an old school horseman and uses things like diluted bleach or ammonia as antiseptic as well as hydrogen peroxide. I am concerned this is to harsh on the live tissue but would like comments. He has had several vets look at it in the last few days. They have prescribed several injectable antibiotics and samples are at the lab. He is just flushing it and wrapping it in the mean time. There has been thoughts of Autoimmune disorders and the body rejecting the hoof but I was not there when the vets came so I got that second hand.
The above query is from this nice man to answer some questions.
I have been trying to post pictures of this hoof before it fell off, but have been running into technical problems. My file size and pixel size dimensions are within range, but there must be some other configuration that I don't know about

Make sure the hoof is biopsied before too long. I've seen something similar to this in the past.... The Biopsy was never done and the infection ended up moving to the rest of the horse. Don't want that to happen.

What do the other 3 hooves look like??
You will need to get a support shoe on the other side ,and ,Or get the animal Hung up.
If that hoof smells the why it looks then who knows ...I myself would put it down ...sorry for that ..my thoughts.

They probably pulled it up searching google. I've done that before and resurrected posts that I find and then I realize it's from 2004 or something. :p
Now I'm wondering if this horse made it, looks awful.
