I was at a ride last weekend and someone showed me a hoof that had a soft spot about the size of a quarter just behind the white line at the toe. The horse's farrier had told the owners that the horse had an abscess and to soak his hoof and keep it wrapped with ichthamol packing. The horse had an Easyboot on the hoof, and was not sore on it, which puzzled me.
Is it likely that the horse had an abscess under there?
My guess was that it might have been a pocket where an abscess that had already resolved had been?
