hi. i have a 7 year old TB gelding and i noticed the other day that the frog on his front hoof is kind of seperating from the hoof at the heel. i havnt noticed him limp, every once in a while he will limp for a day or 2 and i couldnt find any swelling or bruising, until i noticed this. he has his hooves doen regularly and is barefoot so i dont know why the farrier hasnt noticed this. some one told me he needs shoes on the front because he's in alot of pain. i have never seen anything like this before, does anybody know what this is and how to fix it?

If you post pictures, you will get a lot better response. Without pictures, it's just guessing.

Like Cordell said pix would really help us explain what we are identifying. Separation of the frog could be as simple as shedding of the frog (which usually happens at least once, sometimes twice a year); or could be a severe laceration of the frog from fencing, or undermining of the frog from a rampant thrush infection, or even from an abscess!
