 I have a three year old hunt seat filly at an account that I am ready to strangle! She chronicly and with malice and forthought beats the heck out of the back of her stall with her hind feet. Annoying enough because I work in front of her stall, but excaserbated by the fact the hind shoes just fall of after about three weeks. The shoes are hunter fit, clipped, safed, boxed, spit shined and kisseed for luck---she literaly kicks them off in three weeks. How do you stop a stall kicker before they 1) give there dedicated but frustrated farrier an anurism(IHATELOSTSHOESIHATELOSTSHOESIHATELOSTSHOES !)
2)she bangs her foot through the wall and I laugh at her
3)or a serious injury to her foot or leg occurs, wich would be bad medicine. She is a big time, big money critter(and really sweet and pretty to boot).
So how can I who is there one day a week stop a chronic behaviour, or  convince the trainers to stop her before I break her sweet little neck!

Turnout is the best remedy. Her owners may think she is too high priced and special for turnout but she will, without doubt in my mind, have debiltating injuries if this persists.

You might move her to a different stall. Some horses calm down when there is a lot of activity near thair stall and some calm down if they are put in a secluded place. Do not train her to do this to get attention by going to her stall to "comfort" her or even yelling at her when she starts. Try to ignore it.

Big ole heavy kicking chains will most likely work-but that will probably give her more hock action than desired when worked.

I agree with getting the owners to do some or all of this:
turn her out all day to get out her frustrations,
move her or any offensive stable mate on the other side of the wall (if there is one) so there is no more excuse for nasty mare behaviour
get kicking chains (yes they do work and I know vets who prescribe them) ) and (this is the best one) make them pay through the nose every time you have to go bck out there to replace a wall splattered hind shoe. .I think a fifty buck emergency trip charge every couple of weeks should get them on the stick toward making some management changes. ;)

I have an owner that took kicking chains to the next level. They simply chained them together like hobbles at the pastern. Worked like a charm!
And... don't forget the fifty bucks.
Owner management... is that like government intelligence? ;)
