Roadster wedge on top in the first picture.

Shows wedges's slope away from the outside edge for safety.

Sorry this picture is a little out of focus. The big diffrence between the two is the slope to the front and back of the t****zoid when viewed from the side.

No boxing on the foot surface of either.

Thanks Roy,
neat stuff. These are roadster style C&W, pretty much the same style as I (try to ;) )make them. Do you have any pics of hunter style C&W? Do you not hammer the calk back to itself on a right angle? Mine are vertical on the side towards the branch, and not rasped safe, I rasp only the wedge. When in a hurry I make "fake" wedges, turn a calk and rasp it up heavily to be wedge shaped. I think in the old edition (green covered) of the Hickman Farriery book they showed hunter style wedge, but mine is long gone with moving houses between countries, not to mention forgetful friends...
Thank you again.
Cheers

In the first picture the roadster wedge is on top the hunter wedge is on the bottom. I didn't bother with the caulks because they are pretty much the same.

Neither one is made by turning the stock 90*.

The roadster wedge is made by either bumping up or starting with a section that has enough material to begin with then setting it down over the edge of the anvil.

The hunter wedge I made by turning the stock more like 45* then driving it in and down at the same time.

Sorry it's not a very good explination. Maby I'll take some pictures of the process next time.

Hi Roy,
well actually I was wondering why on earth was your calk rasped :) forgive me my ignorance.
We make the shoes of concave steel, and my wedge is something between the two of yours, and my mentor (born and trained in England) says they are actually rather roadster style. I will take a pict whenever I can organize a decent camera.

Hey Balz, how are you measuring for the concave caulk and wedge?

Hi Roy,
let's say width of the hoof is 5". Then 2x5"+2x3/4"(with of stock)for normal shoes+1.5" for C&W. Can vary depending on how much you stretch them, if you dont squeeze them too much, you might consider 1 3/4 or even 2 put that is really A LOT.
