This is re-gards to my origonal post..can cracks be cronic ?? I should have said generic ??
Here are some images of my mares feet. These were taken the day of her reset. This mare apparently had shoes on for 12 months prior to a reset done this spring. The toes were literally growing up and you could still see the shoe underneath..(a great farrier did this indeed). All joking aside, she has had these cracks and crevices in her hooves for nearly 10 years. I understand the mare didnt have regular foot care. I am hoping we can correct and see some healthy hoof growth. We are feeding her supplements both for growth and health. I understand that once a crack has grown through the coronary band it is virually none repairable and the blemish will always be there..well for me this is one of lifes little challenges.
The horse is so darn sweet, fun to ride..and a real pleasure to be around. So I am really hoping someone could offer some insite of anything that I can do to help have a straight smooth healthy..none cracked hoof.. over a period of time ??
Its also important that we can get the hoof strong and healhy enough to allow her to go barefoot to stimulate the frog..etc..10 years is a long time to wear shoes on a yearly basis..even if we could give her a few months rest per year would be a releif.
Any advice would be appreciated..as she is a sweetie..

I would expect that with regular hoof care along with the nutritionals you are providing this will help a great deal. It will take about a year to complete new hoof growth. Any possibility this mare was foundered in the past? If you stay with a good protocol, eventually you should see the results. It sounds like what you really need to determine is how much of the hoof cracking has been due to non-existent or inadequate hoof care for the last 10 years and how much is actually due to the horse itself. Only time will tell on that one.

Thanks Jeanette. It will be nearly 7 weeks since we started the mineral Biotin supplements. I am anxious for my farrier to see what changes he is seeing when trimming and resetting the fronts.
I never had a vet out as she is sound..my farrier doesnt see any damage done to the laminie..so hopefully things will improve as you mentioned with time. I honestly cant say about how well her feet were maintained prior to my purchasing her. She paws a bit but not aggressively as some do. I do notice time to time as she takes off running..she really digs in with her toes....but for the most part she is very quiet. Hopefully over time..
