Anyone regularly visit a chiropractor? Sometimes my neck hurts after long days, and I figured I'd try it - I've alway been a "if it's not broken" person, but.....now it affects my sleep. Any insight?

Finding a good spine cracker is like finding a good farrier. When you interview your prospective chiropractor, ask for references. If you can find a chiropractor that other farriers or trainers use, that's a good endorsement.
Try to stay away from the ones that want you to indulge in "products" other than spinal manipulation. The chiropractor's job is to move the bone off of the nerve. Don't fall for the add-on bonus holistic, homeopathic, herbal, and marketing fluff.
Be skeptical until you get results. Usually one adjustment is all that is required for relief. If you don't feel better after 3 adjustments - 2 weeks, you need to find another chiropractor. All chiropractors are not created equal - just because they have a license does not mean that they are competent. A point that most farriers should already understand!
A good chiro will give you exercises to perform that will help you maintain the health of your spine. The problem is that once you begin your own spine maintenance routine you will be seeing less of the chiropractor. So the less often you "need" an adjustment, the better service you are getting from your chiro.

Amy;
I used to have a real good Chiro. but he got an offer to teach sports Med at the University Of Wisconsin.
After that I had a client that was a massage Therapist and I would go see her once a month. It was really nice. I got a one hour Massage at about the same price as the chiropractor charged for 10 minutes.
She has moved away this last spring and I can sure tell that i miss the massages.
You may need to do some stretching exercises for that stiff neck. I complained to my Chiropractor about headaches and he diagnosed that.
with age my muscles don't stretch as far as easily as they used to.
Having your chin tucked into your chest all day max's out the stretch on your neck and you need to do exercises to extend them farther so that while you're working those muscles are not at their farthest extention.
Makes sense to me and has always worked.

I used to think they were "witch doctors" and then one day I needed real help. The back doctor wanted to cut me open. I opted to use a chiropractor and low and behold he was able to fix me. I rank him right up there with farriers now. That was 12 years ago and I go in ever 4 to 6 months for a tune up. I once was a non-beleiver and shucks, now he is on my Christmas card list.

Since 1988 a Chiropractor has been fully responsible for my being able to continue to work in my chosen profession.
Thank you Dr. Ken Amtower!
