my friend bought a gelding with out knowing he had a problem the previous owners didnt mention it at all. so can this be fixed.

Well, I'll jump in.

Looks like he has over and over, gravels have popped out near the quarter to heel area. The coronary band is not even; either an injury; or more likely to the endless gravels coming out of the same place. From just the one picture; I get that his heels are chasing the toe. He seems short shod to me; but more pics are needed.
Should have a good balanced shoeing on him to help him. Bring the heels back, and shorten the toe some, maybe a lite rolled toe to the shoe.
Should find out if/or why he is abcessing all the time/broken bar or corns causing the gravels. Actually they are called false quarters, or clefts.

Just a side note and question that I didn't ask yesterday.
Why was this horse not vetted out before purchase or even given to you?? You always vet out a horse before getting obligated to such a responsibility of a large animal. Not everything can be fixed with shoeing, no matter how good the farrier is.
Is this type of horses feet also showing up in your area? because you didn't say where you are from, and if others are having the same troubles.
Here in PA, we are having abcesses one right after another.
