Yes folks I am actually taking a one week vacation with no other reason but to go on vacation.

I leave today on my Harley and head across 4 states to spend a week with my good friend Mark Gough and his wife Katie.
I am so glad the northeast is having a run of good warm weather.
Wish there were more of you on the route out, I would stop in and say hello....:D

I am finally smartening up as I get older.

my 2 cents worth ;)

Hey friend.....

Won't be much longer before I will be down in your country.

All the pieces are coming together and I am glad this will be my last winter to cope with.
I like winter and enjoy the beauty of it, but I am burned out working in cold (brrrrrrr) weather knee deep in snow and ice.

Hope all is well with you folks.
Look forward to actually meeting you....
my 2 cents worth ;)

Portugal...
It must be exciting to visit all these different countries.

I wonder if Rocky Irons ever figured you get as far with the shoeing as you have ??
(if I recall I think you told me you studied with him for a while ?)

Safe trip and take pictures if you have the chance, would love to see them.

Got a retired farrier friend living there, his is also a VN Vet, so we have a lot in common. Is better weather and cheaper for him to live there. No I never studied under Rocky that I know of, but I did study in the Rocky Mountians - does that count?? Do you remember - Join the Navy, See the world. Will with the Army I saw a lot as well. Now you are semi retired, you should get a bike and travel Europe. Think you would enjoy it.

I used to pal with Rocky at conventions (starting in Jackson, Miss in 1981), we were too far apart to ever visit at the other's home - anyone know what's happened to him?

Did I mention that we're taking Bruce to a square dance on Saturday night?

Would this be considered an example of trying to fit a round lad into a square dance? If so, you're going to need a big, big hammer to make the fit. :p:D

Bruce arrived safe and sound, albeit a bit tuckered from the long, two day drive to our place. We spent the day with the horses here and invested a couple hours visiting with Bob Armstrong. Bob is a neighbor and avid collector of Farrier and Blacksmith tools.

Of course, Bruce had to examine/review my farrier's rig, the shop and some of the horses to make sure I was doing everything right. So far, so good but I'm sure the hard critiques will begin tomorrow. More to follow.

Cheers,
Mark

Bruce explains to Bob how a toeing knife is used.

A lot of the tools and shoe examples in Bob's collection come from shops that focused on working horses, particularly drafts. Bruce felt right at home!

I had a marvelous time.
Mark Katie and Alex were the best hosts.
We went horse back riding, worked in the forge, visited Bob's blacksmith collection, and I went to the square dance
and watched Katie and Mark kick up their heels.

Great ride down and the same back.

Thankyou Mark, Katie and Alex
:D
