I just brought home my horse from a boarding barn & I need a farrier for him. He's barefoot, has a bit of thrush, & I'm new at all of this.
What should I look for in a farrier or ask him & what should I provide for him while working on my horse? Oh I think my isle is much too wide for him, how wide should it be for the farrier or should I ask how much room does he require?

I would check with the local feed and tack stores. They should give you names and opinons of the local Farriers.

Looking for a farrier at a feed store is a **** shoot. Look in the farrier finder on this site and at the American Farrier's Association site (http://www.americanfarriers.org), talk to the professionals in your community and find out who they're using and why. Look for someone who has experience, who affiliates with other professionals, who pursues continuing education, etc., etc.

The advise given you is very sound , finding a farrier suitable to you and your horse requires some thought and rescearch
ask around as said and take the time to go look at a farriers work and also just stay in the back ground and watch him or her working , see how they handle the horse and the clients and themselves
then if you like what you see go introduce yourself , see if you can chat while they are working , some farriers dont like to some love to
If you can talk freely and enjoy this person first up then there is a good chance you will in the future
Mate its nice to hear /read someones post enquireing as to what they can do to help their farrier
Ask farriers what they like in a client , putnuallity, horses at the ready clean legs hooves ,wet or dirty rugs removed
well behaved horses , if not you see that they are trained ready for the farrier
you should always be honest with the farrier about everything
a safe clean debree free sheltered working area is a real bonous for a farrier
treat this profesional with respect and Im sure they will resipricate
lisen to and take their advise and your relationship should blossum and grow into a wonderfull friendship
