Hello all,
I had a bit of a shock the other day. I was working in a barn I've taken care of for years, working on a very nice, well behaved lesson horse (24 year old QH). Just trimming her as usual, she gets done every 6 weeks. I was on the last hoof (LH) and had nipped from toe to inside quarter moving into the heel. Then, half a nip and shes bleeding through her WL. My first thought was " how in the world did I cut her too short?!?".....but the more I examined her I really don't think that was the problem. She was bleeding like I had quicked her, her sole was fine. I showed the owner and the barn owner and we couldn't figure it out. The really strange part is; it didn't bother her. She never flinched, was never off, walked away as sound as could be. I had them treat it for a couple of days, I called to see how she was doing a few days later and she still had never acted as though it hurt. So I was wondering if it could be something like a stay blood vessel with out nerves? If so what kind of thing do you think could have caused it? Any thoughts or info would be great!

you should ask irish cas about that. she has got an awful lot of knowledge about leaks.

Think maybe you meant Anne "Tree" Coley.

It was propably an old hematoma or bruise.

Thank you. I did consider both of those, but I had never had one that bled with some flow (not just slowly seeping out). And the blood itself was bight red.....
