I need to make some glue on shoes this weekend, I don't have time to get a pair, so I need to figure out how to make some. I was thinking some strips of sheetmetal, about 3/4 inch wide, about 2 1/2 inches long, rivetted to the shoe, then glued on with... superglue...??? Would this work, do you have any suggestions?
The reason that I need them is that one of my horses tore a shoe off, and there is NOTHING to nail to. I pulled 4 clips on the shoe, and nailed where I could, but I don't have much faith in it staying on long. I set up a time to come back on Mon and get her taken care of, so I'm hoping I can come up with something. I have to keep it in-expensive too.

I think Josh (slowShoe) posted a trick he's used on one of these threads that's probably what you are wanting.
Quote from Josh-
If I dont have a sigafoos shoe, I cut an Aluminum plate (.090/060) to the shape of the shoe like a rim pad except leaving tabs (like giant clips) on each side of it just in front of the widest point. Huge side clips. I dill a bunch of holes in the big clips. I rivet the pad to the shoe, fold the clips up and angle them to the wall. Use your favorite glue to bond them to the wall. They are ***** to get off the foot after 6 weeks. They definitely do the job well.

If you have a heat Gun you will find that lots of plastic boxes can be cut up and welded together no problem ...I have used old plastic mail tray(good thick stuff) for lots of stuff ...Jig saw /heat Gun/superglue...:)

Ollie,
Im pretty sure super glue aint going to work that well. Get some Adhere or equilux. You've got to put quite a bit on.
Another thing I've had success with is Galvanized Pipe Hanger. It comes in a roll of like 25ft. I'm not sure how necessary it is, but you might want to grind the galvanized coating off of the stuff you use. I curt a couple inches and rivet it to the toe quarters and sides of the shoe. It bends easily and has holes in it for the glue to lock into.

You put Glue between the shoe and the foot so when it hardens you will have filled the 1/8" created between the shoe and the foot by the rivets/metal strapping.
It was a hot day and the glue hardened too quickly so the job got messy real quick glue got everywhere. Its ugly as sin but it worked. It could be done to look a lot nicer.

This is one that I did a few months ago. I used Hurricane Strapping. It thicker and larger and much harder to bend, but it worked very well. The problem is if you need to shape it to the foot more you risk loosening your rivets. Which may not matter once all the glue fills all the spots.

Im quite sure you could get away with these tabs being much shorter, maybe 1 inch or up the hoof wall.

Since Slowshoe was genius enough to come up with a "homemade" Sigafoos, maybe he could also develop a "homemade" glue for us.
Has anybody tried to use a homemade glue concoction?
I was wondering if one could mix fiberglass strands, fiberglass resin, and epoxy in a sealed glass jar. Then you would add the peroxide catalyst and it would be ready to apply.

I 'm thinkin the glue for PVC pipe should work, it works even in wet conditions? Comes in purple too!:D

I dont think it will cure fast enough. You want a 3-5 minute cure time. The PVC glue is pretty runny too.

I've drawn out 4-5 big ugly clips, put nails in your toe and heel nailholes and bend them to the outside and nip them off. (these are just for spacers, but they won't move) Then use Adhere to glue it on. I've had some work like this pretty good.
I do reccomend using denatured alcohol and a heat gun to clean and dry the foot.
If you want to go the extra mile rivet a plastic pad to the shoe (use at least 4 rivets, one in each corner) then drill a small hole in the end of your clips and attach with a small screw.
Getting Adhere off a plastic pad is near impossible, but it will come off a shoe pretty easy.
I have yet to do it, but I imagine just glueing a DNP to the foot would work really well.
