...what this is. The mare had been ridden hard about a month ago one day on pavement and hard packed dirt roads. The day after, the owner said she was really lame on her fronts. The vet happened to be there and asked him to turn the mare in a circle. When the horse rocked back on her hind end to get off her feet to turn, the vet said " Well, she foundered".
When I looked at her today, she was still sore, and had some cracks on her sole near the toe. I dug into them a little bit and got a small amount of pusy blood-like fluid. I didn't go any further because I was a little scared of getting inot really sensitive tissue, but she seemed immediately more confortable after taking some of the pressure off those spots.
SO the question I have is: What is it? It acts like an abcces, but I'm not positive. Did I overlook something really important here, or does she just need some time?
THanks in advance for the advice.

P.S. Sorry for the picture quality, they were taken with my phone.

Well it sure looks like chronic founder and now sole abscesses which are a common result of founder.
She needs to be shod for the founder ,while and leaving the lower toe edge open to drain the abscesses. There are lots of ways to do that. But I would INSIST on them getting radiographs before you proceed, to see where everything is inside those feet . If you are not very experienced in shoeing a foundered horse then get someone in to help you who is.
