i was just outside diggen out a rattlesnake from under the house when i thought i'd had better go inside and make sure he could'nt get inside (with my 4 year old girl and my 2 year old boy). when i happened past one of my mouse traps drug out into the middle of the luandry room with a "bull snake" stuck in it.

Keeeeyrap man, i new i lived in the wild west but this is a lttle rediculous.

i guess i now know why i have'nt been catching any mice.

i think i'd rather have a few mice in the house than a any kind of snake.

most of the harm would be directed toward me by my wife,
if she had been the one to discover any kind of snake in her laundry room. i'm pretty sure i woulda been whipped like a stray dog!

Its a non poisionous snake but can cause heart failure with the surprise that comes with stumbling up on one. I have run across a few that had nasty little attitudes.

Yeah but, the Bullsnake will eat the Rattler, too bad he got caught in the trap. Get a bunch of cats they help keep the snakes away cause they eat up the mice first. :D P.S. Rattlers are mighty tasty by the way!

I can follow that ....you have different wildlife and stuff ,but wives seem to be the same breed all over:p

When I go turkey hunting in west Texas, I like seeing bullsnakes out and in the area, because the rattlers are not too bad then.

What do you do if you get struck by a rattler ....how long do you have to get to a doctor ,or should you cut the area off as soon as Possible

That depends on where you get bit? If you do get bit one should TRY to stay calm, and get to a ER asap. I had a client that got bit by a Copperhead last month and they just drew a circle around the bite every hour and watched for swelling. She swelled up and had to keep her foot elevated for a few weeks but has recovered well. Sometimes the cure is harder that the actual bite according to her Doctor. Personally I haven't been bit but did get spit at by a Cobra once, had safety glasses on luckily.

I shall meet the horses flys with less anger in the morning now.
Take care out there ...lots of snakes in the grass and thats only the horse owners sometimes:D

For some reason, this guy didn't like my yearling poking his nose into the snake's business:eek: He was somewhere between 6' and 7' long. Scared the bejeezuz out of me when I first spotted him.

i am very grateful that we don't have these types of snakes up here.

i hate rattle snakes, but at least you know when you are gettinng close to them. copperheads and cotton mouths scare me to death.

I'll keep him, thanks! He probably takes care of many more rattlers than I care to think about! Hopefully he taught my colt not to stick his nose into anything slithering on the ground!

The thing about Copperheads is they slither in pairs. Find one and there will be another close by!:(

Bullsnakes (and other non poisionous snakes) are quite beneficial around a house or barn beecause they eat rattlers and pesky rodents.
I never intentionally kill one, in fact I will stop when I see one crossing a road and get them out of harms way.
Bull snalkes are quite agressive when cornered and will scare the pants off you if you don't know they are not rattlers, but basically harmless. Bite hurts but it is not poison.

Get a Cairn Terrior and you won't have ANY intruders garanteed! They're breed to go after thing and have big mouths and teeth to be only 15 or so lbs. My little guy is the man.

Bill, used to do a demo for the public at a park in Dallas years ago. Proper ways to handle snakes. We just happened to have a cobra so we used him!

I was walking through the kitchen late last night in the dark and stepped on a garter snake about 30" long. I turned on the light in time to see him crawl back into the cabinet and under the wall. My wife and kids couldn't sleep.

if my wife found out that i had trapped a bull snake (or any kind of snake for that matter) in the house, i'd be "batching it" for the rest of my life

lets just keep this little tale to ourselves.

I'll explain the Wolf rat. When I lived in south Georgia we had these huge rats outside that would bury holes in the ground, mostly in the sheds or barns. They were big with big cordlike tails. They had big teeth in the front, would come at you. Looked like I would imagine a big sewer rat would look like. We called them Wolf rats. I sound like I am telling a story, but it was no story then.

well today when i got home from church, i sent my son around to the back porch to get some food for the dogs while i was filling up the water bucket when all of a sudden he started yelling at me that he found the snake. i ran around and found my son pionting and telling me how the snake was trying to get under the house.

he didn't make it this time,

and i got to see my kid get his first snake. he was pretty proud of himself. i am almost possitive that this is the same snake from the other day
