Well I ordered some of these and some Saint C Euros from Meaders to try them out.. (They ship for free to farriers, and it arrived the next day!) Anyway, the Euros are great except the heels seem to have some sharp steel like residual metal from grinding on the heels. They are nice, and the Eq Forgings are nice too, these shoes are pretty much the same as Kerkheart sx8's.. But much cheaper. The hind pattern Euros have the 1'st and 2nd nail holes spaced apart for room for adding clips. Its nice.

The problem is the Equine Forging Custom fits, the nial holes dont seem like they are punched properly.. The dont fit CH5 nails.. The nail doesnt go all the way in, gets stuck about 1/4inch out. I dont have ANY e heads so I cant try those, and the ch5 slim blades I tried didnt fit either. But those were Save Edge nails, and may not be the same width as a capewell or somthing.

Anyone try these shoes, and have the right fit with any nails? I may end up back punching every nail hole.. that would stink =]

Thanks!
Josh

I use tons of the Equine Forgings Custom Fits in a variety of sizes, with and without clips and use Mustad Combo 5 and Mustad CH4 with them all the time. I've never had trouble driving the nails home. I've in the past used Capewell CH nails as well and also didn't run into any problems? Are you shaping hot or cold and are you sure you're not mashing the holes when your shaping? I like these shoes alot, find them easy to shape and durable, and they're made right here in Canada.

all good things

I havent even hit one with a hammer or put one on yet. The nails jsut dont fit. Maybe I gotta order some differant nails.. These shoes are a nice less expensive alternative to the Kerkhearts.. They require VERY little shaping as they are a pattern shoe like Extra EZ's. I like em. Like the price too =]

Anything patterned after a European style shoe would in turn be punched for an E-head nail, whichever brand you prefer. Personally I use Izumi E head #4 which is like a Delta E-2 and I use Delta E 3's through 6's on the larger shoes. Trevor
