Ray has become the first person to post a video in the Video Gallery section. It's a demonstration of pulling clips on keg shoes. As Ray has aptly pointed out, if he can post videos to the Video Gallery, anyone can! His video is at:

Let's see you guys (and gals) start making the Video Gallery as useful and popular as the Albums have become. (Over 175 Albums have already been created, aggregately containing thousands of photos.)

Nicely done, Ray.

Ray

You're a clipping machine,
Even at a black heat.

It has been 3 years since I had access to a clip horn,
Works good if you're in a hurry, and makes a nice clip

Thanks for the clip on clips

Now, now. It was darn good for a first video attempt. You think Spielberg's first short clip was as good as his fifth? Let's give credit here. The lead man always takes the arrows....

No problem. My response was meant to be humorous. I guess it wasn't evident....:(

cool video. I'd love to see some closer work. My digital camera JUST started working again after my dog knocked a cup of water into the cup holder it was in. So maybe I will video me making some clips or something. Then you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong :) I certainly cant knock out 4 shoes in 7 minutes. Though i've never timed myself.

Looks good Ray. I gave it a shot to be the first to post a vid and took one of me clipping and making X heels and hot fitting them. Had a new digital video cam that I do not really like and forgot to put in the card. The video did work but is in the mass storage of the cameras memory and I cannot get it on to my PC. Next time.

Ray I enjoyed your clip pulling demo. Amazed that you could draw so well when the metal was dark and didn't seem in much of a hurry to catch the red.:confused: That style rounding hammer always gave me a problem drawing a narrower clip on small shoes, as I see it does for you, especially the fronts. My experience of clips that broad on a small hoof, is that it can eventually cause a groove down the front of the hoof. Have you ever found this?
One other observation, you use the horn to shape a hind shoe, I've always used the heel of the anvil. Very interesting.
Thanks again.

Ray,
do you pull any other type clips or is that the way you do them all?

sadly its hard to get fullerd steel here so we we use factory shoes most of the time...with or without clip
On the job i pull them all that way ...for alu i use a ball hammer for the first shot then pull the rest that way .
When we make shoes mostly from 30x10 flat steel to start with we set up both sides of where we want the clip and then pull them the same way at the end of the shoemaking ..if thet makes sence...
years back i worked in kent and was stuck in the forge all day making 30 -40 sets out of fullerd steel and was angry that i didn`t get to see a horse ..long story:(

Why do you need them so big on small shoes?

Why do you need them so big on small shoes?

They not as big as they look those are 5x0 for a shetland ,the girl drives a gig so they get 4 road studs in each shoe and 4 nails E2 ..saw that pony tonight had the last set 6 weeks ago looks like new ..they are about as big as a half pound coin ...maybe.:)not as thick..we only have hills here on the side of the mosel vally.steep road work for the little guy..
