I am searching for an answer to the same question - I have a 15 year old x-police horse who was retired early due to incompatibility with police work. He was ridden in a martingale for 10 years until the police dept. gave him to me. I have turned him into a dressage horse and everything was going fine - we had some issues travelling to the right especially at the canter, but things were getting better. Now I have this stumbling problem which started after my last shoeing. I've had this horse for one year and had the same farrier. I have ridden him in the western saddle and the dressage saddle and lunged him with nothing - and he is stumbling badly. I watched him at the canter on the lunge and I could see that he would stumble and maybe fall any second because he was not picking up his left front travelling right. He is not unsound at all - it almost seems as though it's weakness or he can't tell where his feet are. This horse is not overworked or stressed - his sessions are 1/2 hour long 5 - 6 days a week (not your normal dressage sessions!) Any similar experiences would be helpful!
