Hi,
Interestingly enough I spoke with my vet yesterday about the entire situation again. I have not seen the xrays myself yet but will this weekend. I asked again what is going on and she said there is erosion to the Navicular bone. Also, that she is "assuming" there is also erosion to the tendon. I was a little upset thinking that before recommending retirement of a horse other tests should be recommended. Nevertheless, I asked if the tendon were being irritated by that bone wouldn't the horse feel some pain? And she agreed that he would and that I would know if there was a problem. Right now he is a happy boy and feels very good and sound. She said I should continue to ride. I am now more confused than ever and will probably ride for the summer and see how he goes and then take him to a clinic an have another xray and ultrasound done. I have pretty much run out of extra money right now and if he goes off again I will know.
Thanks for you help. I would also like to hear from Dr Meyers if he is out here somewhere?
Thanks !
Suzanne
Suzanne,
: It's possible that there was enough prior damage that your horse is still at risk even though he's now evidencing as sound, and I would not want to discount what your vet has advised. Nevertheless, all things considered--especially with such improvement, I would want more specific and detailed diagnostic procedures and probably a second opinion before I wrote this horse off.
