I thank all of you for the good advise- I must admitt, my friend had me pretty hyped up on the idea that he's free and I could just put him out in a pasture and shoe him every month and he'd be fine. I have taken your advise and I actually used to work at a vet hospital that does do a lot of equine care so spoke w/ both vets. One cringed at the idea and the other said take him on a 10 day trial and see what happens. I have done a lot more research into the cost of care and it totals up pretty fast. I think I'm going to pass this one up as I am going back to the local college next yr so wont have much spare time between work and school not to mention I need my education so that someday I can actually afford a horse w/out breaking the bank
