: : I am very concerned for my friends gelding, he is loosing weight and condition very fast.
: : The only thing that has changed this year is different type of snow pad, is hard plastic/rubber instead of silicone.
: : Jan 15..front leg abcess, swelling up to knee, drains above heel and all is well.
: : Two weeks later back leg on same side, fever, very lame and abcess is deep, antibiotic is now finished , fever off and on and swelling front of leg all the way to hock,
: : Horse is not eating, going back to the vet again next Monday, x-rays are clean.
: : My friend has never had foot problems before and is worried.
: : Curious about swelling and fever, Thank You...
: Has there been a change in farriers? Has there been a change in environment? This could be any number of things ranging from a very bad foot abcess to a spider bite. It doesn't sound like a foot abcess as it seems to moving from one leg to another. You've got me stumped. Make sure you are using a vet that specializes in horses and roll with the punches. good luck

Horse went back to vet. and the abscess was misdiagnosed, they x-rayed the hock and it is in bad shape, horse went directly to vet.hospital where nobody could belive this horse had been rideable. Nobody yet knows where the fever is coming from.
Tomorrow different scans will be taken and evaluated, prognosis is not good and I sure wish it had been an abscess instead, very sad, Åse
