Progress: After a week of treatment (soaking in Epsom salt, rinsing in diluted Betadine, packing with Wonder Dust and cotton, and wrapping), the foot looks better. It remains clean - no goo or smell, and the frog is no longer mushy. However, the frog is still smooth, redish, and softer than it should be. Can anyone put a name to this?
Dale - I read a message where you said you were from Northern Nevada. You may be the farrier who helped me with "Dodge," the precious gray pony with Cushings Disease. If so, "Hello" and I hope you are well.

: I am trying to help an abandoned 26 year old Arab who is healthy except for a bad frog infection in the left front hoof. The rest of the foot appears healthy, but the frog bled badly when my farrier trimmed it and the entire frog is very soft.
: "Whiskers" has had this infection for months. Previously it was treated as an abcess which was thought to have healed. My farrier says he has seen a few cases like this before but never had access to a vet to ID it. He knows it's not thrush. We live in the desert so mucky conditions aren't the answer!
