I have a 12 year old paint gelding, he has started to have a thrush smell; however there is no black "gunk" when I pick his hooves they seem to flake white peices of hoof as I clean them, also they are starting to split at the back of the frog with a white kind of "waterlogged" look. It is very wet in the pasture and also my stalls do not drain very well and stay partially damp. in spite of this they are picked and kept clean. The ferrier was out two weeks ago and recomended a hoof heal product due to dryness, but never mentioned any other potential problems pertaining to thrush this seems to have started showing signs of this about a week ago. He is a little tender at thefront of the frog while picking them. Thank you for any help.
