: I have been fighting this problem for over 2 years. Living on the north Oregon coast, it's ALWAYS wet outside, summer and winter. We're talking mud puddles from October through July. I can't keep the horses feet dry unless I keep them indoors 24/7. I don't have an arena so can't do that. I use White Lightning mixed with vinegar and the mare wears Old Macs to prevent the sand from packing in the cracks and making them worse but I'm fighting a losing battle. Any ideas?

When we have real wet winters and springs I tell my clients to use one of those oily hoof products. Because the oil in the junk will repel the excess water, just remember to stop using the stuff when it gets dry! Remember that oil and water don't mix! Good Luck! Gary
