In Reply to: 3 month old foal with bent knees - advice wanted posted by Alexandra Wikner on July 13, 2003 at 16:12:21:
: My filly is three months old now. She was pretty much bent in her knees when born, and had an outward twisted fetlock on her left hindleg.
: This is the mares fifth foal and ALL of them have been bent in the knees at birth, but they ALL have straightes up within a month by themself, and so did my filly too, and hade perfectly straight front knees. However, a few weeks ago she started to look bent in her kness (in Sweden were I live we called it "hanging in the knees). My farrier and I agreed to keep a close eye on her, and now a week on the condition had worsened some, mostly at her left front knee.
: (her outwards twisted fetlock has been straightened out witch corrective filing of the outside of the hoof and i perfectly fine now)
: My farrier actuallt donīt have so many solutions with bent knees, so if it still worsen - what can be done? (If anything).
: The filly os an arab, was pretty big for her breed already at birth, and has been growing pretty fast and is still bigger then "average".
: I can link to pictures if they would ease an advice.
Alexandra,
Does the leg with the "hanging knee" also have a steeper toe angled foot? Are there any differences in that foot when compared to the other front foot?
Please do post the link for the photos.
