: I have a five year old mare who's front feet have definite different angles. She has alot of TB in her and has really low heels except one foot that I think might have had a touch of a contracted tendon when young - it is a little steeper and actually looks pretty good. I had her worked on by a chiro/massage person that told me I should put a wedge pad on the not so steep foot to get the two feet to match, and that her hips were uneven because of the differing angles. I have always held to the theory to shoe them to the foot and not worry about the angles matching. Any advice/comments? She hasn't ever had any lameness problems, and she works good but then I have never really used her all that much either.
The reason the chiro/massage person is rubbing horses is probably because s/he is NOT QUALIFIED to be giving shoeing advise and service
let a professional farrier help you with this situation......aimlessly adding wedges to a horse's feet is not a good idea..but it sounds like you have already come to that conclusion on your own
.......looking forward to the day when chiropractors, saddle makers, tack store owners, trainers, feed sales reps, small animal vets, etc, etc STOP giving shoeing advise
