: The good news is the abcess drained. The foot that abcessed may take time to heal and probably will be sensitive until it does. Sometimes what happens is a horse may injure one foot pulling a shoe and the other foot becomes sore and damage sensitive tissue because of supporting to much weight. Is your horse currently barefoot? If he is, I would put shoes back on him with leather pads to so that he is proteted and comfortable. Leather pads with medicated pine tar and oakum as a packing is a better way to provide protection if there is still infection present, leather breaths and the medicated pine tar will help kill bacteria and fungus. This will help him put weight on both front feet equally. Just a thought, see what your Vet and Farrier think about it, they may want to do differently for other reasons.

Thanks Phil. He does have shoes on all around except for the one that is sore. My farrier was out of town for the last 2 weeks he should be back tomorrow. My vet thought he would be better no later then Monday. She thinks maybe we might have more then one abcess she also wants to take an ex-ray on Wes. I will share your thoughts with her. Thanks!!!!
