This has started to happen with my fit, 6 year old gelding, too. I started to notice it last month when our arena flooded, and all we could do was to lunge them in a small corner. Since it was quiet, I could hear the click, and now it appears to be louder. We isolated it to the right hock, we think. My farrier just put trailers on his shoes, so we're hoping that helps, but I still hear the click. He definitely felt stronger and more powerful after having trailers, though, as though it was easier for him to support himself with his hind legs and use his back.

So, just more collaboration, but wondering if you have learned anything about this since you posted.
