: My Spotted Saddle Horse mare is about 7yrs. old and I have owned her 3 months. She stumbles badly on pretty level pasture when being ridden. She falls to her knees and once rolled forward onto her head. I have also seen her stumble in the pasture with no rider. I use to ride this horse about 1 yr ago and when she was offered for sale this year I bought her. She did not stumble or trip then!! When I bought her she had been left standing in field for about 8 months and was malnurished. My vet says she is ok but may need a supplement. What is your opinion and why is she stumbling now and not in the past? She is in good condition muscle wise so could it be lack of some vit. or mineral?
: Thank You,

It sounds like a full lameness exam is in order, complete with radiographs, etc done by an EQUINE VET THAT SPECIALIZES IN LAMENESS.....a general practitioner is not what this horse needs at this point...when the vet says the horse is OK and the horse continues to have problems, then it is time for a 2nd opinion
