I purchased a 3.5 year old TWH 3 weeks ago from the local horse auction. Talked to the previous owner whom had him flat shod for 2 years. The trader put a heavy plantation shoe on the horse. We went on a 10 mile ride the next weekend, horse did perfect in everyway! The following weekend new trail, I notice the horse favoring the left front foot(head bobbing first clue). Stop to rest and notice a knot about the size of a half dollar about 1 inch above the fetlock joint. Horse is hesitant to walk and I turn around and take him home. Horse is now very lame/swollen on the left foot, I immediately start icing the fetlock joint and around this area. Horse is better next day and much better the third. 90% by the fourth day and the knot has reduced to halh of the size! Do you guys think I have a splint problem, interference what? There is absoloutey no hair missing from this area. He does overreach at times (clanking sounds, hair missing just above the coronet band). Farrier is coming tomorrow to look at him.
