: : I am tring to find the name of this tie-down/lead rope thing that someone showed me. A blacksmith had sold this to my farrier a few years ago(over 7) and it may be much older then that.
: : OK here is the description. All rope nothing else, monkey's fist on one end ,8 feet then a moneky's fist(smaller then the first one)on one half and a handle(braided from the rope) on the other half. The handle is approx 7 inches and the monkey's fist on that end is also approx 7 inches. Now this is used to tie the horse while working with his/her feet by sliding the handle threw the halter then sliding the monkey's fist threw the handle. The other end is tie to a hitching post or tree or whatever using whatever kind of knot you want. I think the monkey's fist on the bottom end is just for throwing around the tree etc.

: : Thx Lonnie

: It could be called a war bridle, lip cord, or whatever... but DO NOT EVER tie a horse to an object with a device that could tighten or clamp down on his face, mouth, or around his neck or body unless you want a huge wreck, the risk of injury to you and the horse, and potential lawsuit. I have seen horses break their faces or jaws, and one almost kill herself and do permenant neurological neck damage with devices such as these when the owners tied them.
: There are far,far safer and more effective ways to use training or restraining devics, in hand. Used correctly, a training device such as that can teach the horse to stand quietly, untied and with the rope held loosely, or tucked in your pocket or hanging loose. Tied st oa solid object however the horse may only panic and kill himself before he finds the release.

I would like to add that with proper training you should not have to use any devices for a farrier to work on a horse, if they are afraid or misbehaving it is becuase of lack of trust and/or respect and requires more training. I certainly do not want to get under a horse that does not trust or respect you. If you need devices then go back to basic ground work and if that don't work get professional help. I do not trust drugs either!!!! Trust being the most important.
