My farrier pulled my horses shoes for the winter. The next day my horse could not stand for an extended period. I examined my horse and found that his back feet had been trimmed to the point of bleeding at the toes. I called my vet and had him checked to be on the safe side and the vet told me that his feet were warm and prescribed Bute to help with the pain and inflamation. I have my horses shoes pulled every winter and have never had this type of problem. I do not understand why my farrier would have done this. My horse was so sore, he had to lie down in his padded stall with a foot of shavings. Only now after 4 days is he able to walk around without pain. Is there some reason behind this type of trim? Why would my farrier do this?
