: : My friend has a 14hh pony mare, of which is her little jumper until she sells her.

: : Thing is, her feet are in good, tough shape, yet they have naturally worn down square in front. This horse is kept in a paddock with nothing I would consider hard ground, and ridden in an arena with a sand/sawdust mixture as footing. When she was up to be trimmed by the barn farrier, he wouldn't do her commenting that she just didn't need to be done...we weren't there so never had the chance to ask him about this. He's not my farrier, seeing as he made my horses feet sore everytime the two times he did them. Grr.

: : Her front's are dead square. She hasn't had a proper trim since...oh gee it's gotta be June by now...but there's nothing to trim! The backs are wearing down too, but not at such a square angle as the front.

: : What is the cause of this? She's light on her feet, but does drag them in minimal amounts.

: : Is there anything she can do to stop this? As nice as it is to not have to trim your horses feet, this wouldn't be widely accepted in a show ring and it's really starting to look terrible.

: : Is this a good or bad thing, in general? I'm starting to worry seeing as there isn't a single other horse at the barn who is doing this.

: : Thanks in advance!!

: Lisa,

: It sounds to me like the horse is wearing her feet to where she is comfortable and that the wear is keeping pace with the growth, or vice versa.......if she is sound I wouldn't worry what it 'looks' like

: many people wish their horses feet fit this scenario......count your blessings :)

Thank you very much! Glad to hear it's perfectly normal for her..lol.
