: I have a chronic laminitic pony, Oscar. He had his last attack last Oct. & X-rays revealed some rotation & a little sinking. Since then he's been shod with steel NBS. Problem is that at this time of year, after each shoeing he is really sore for weeks, with a pulse (which wasn't there beforehand). He just seems to be getting intolerant to all the nail bashing. I just wondered if anyone could help me - would he be better with EDSS pads on (my farrier says his hooves are too narrow) or is there an alternative to nail on NBS that still enables me to give him pedal bone support? I worry that he just isn't getting sole support
: Thanks for any help.
Shoes can, of course, be glued on, but you do not indicate if under the current procedure, any form of caudal heel support, whether it is a pad with frog support, or a pour in pad, etc., is part of the protocol. How often are resets occuring , how much hoof growth is there and how much is being removed? Is the sole being allowd to remain intact, or is it being removed, particularly infront of the apex of the frog?. Is the shoe pressing on the sole? What size shoe is the pony wearing?
