: I just had my horses's shoes taken off for the winter and she has been "ouchy" the first couple of days. I had them taken off by a different farrier last year and she was fine, I even rode her without shoes most of spring and she was fine. What causes this? I don't want to put her shoes back on - I hate borium in the winter. Is it possible that he trimmed her back too far and if so how long before she gets over it? she is only out on a dirt paddock and we only work in a dirt ring, no trail riding.

Jessica,

It's possible that the horse was trimmed too short....it's also possible that the conditions are different than last year or there is something else going on that is causing her discomfort.......I would give it a week and see if she improves...if not, I would have the farrier back out to see if there is a problem

Good Luck

Derin
