They may just be lines up the hoof - I wasn't too worried about it before because they seemed like just superficial hairline cracks & showed up dark on his white hooves, but to me they now seem a little bit wider - we've had such a wet spring.
My blacksmith has not been concerned about them & this horse has never had so much as an abcess (knock on wood) - his hooves are so solid and wear so nicely - I am hoping he can remain barefoot.
