I have a 11 year old QH gelding. His hooves have started spliting on the rear R&L on each side of the hooves. Both hooves are white where the front are dark. He is on a 14% all around feed about 8lbs a day and high quality perenial peanut hay. Great health. All the horses I have had were dark hooved. Someone told me that light hooves are harder to keep up than dark hooves. Is there any truth to this. If there is -any recommendations. One other thing is that we live in the panhandle of Florida and the climate ca be both super hot and dry or extremely wet we have seen both in the last 6 months, could this be a factor.
