Hmm that's a good point. I'm thinking the Valentines might be up my alley because the problem seems due to the dryness. We're lucky and actually got 2-3 days of rain and there is mud in the pasture.
If we have a "normal" summer for wetness I expect his hooves to grow out without a problem. We just hadn't had any real rain until this last week and I didn't want to try dealing with the crack in the middle of a hot dry summer. We had an extreemly dry summer followed by a very dry winter last year.
