: Hi, and thanks in advance,
: My 12 year old Tb has been shod all around since I bought him at 5. Last year he was leased out and came back with rear shoes in front (?!) and no white line behind. The hoof itself looked decent, though he was understandbly slightly ouchy in the front.
: He has had good nurtition and hay, as well as turnout and Farriers Formula. The other day he pulled off his (new, correct) front shoe. The farrier couldn't come out for a few days but my barn manager turned him out in the meanwhile.
: When the shoe was put back on ( after the farrier had left) my barn manager looked at his foot and Said he had seedy toe because there was a chip in the very front of that hoof.
: She wanted me to buy her leftoiver seedy toe cure that had "cured" her horse before I came to the barn.
: Am I wrong to think maybe its NOT seedy toe and JUST a chip? I know seedy toe can come from poor hoof care but 12 months with regular if inept shoeing doesn't count as bad hoof care- does it?
: The farrier is coming back next friday so I will ask him for sure sicne he can SEE it but I'd appreicate advice now!

It sounds as if your horse is undergoing the long toe/underrun heel problem. This will cause wall separation just as you are seeing. Radiographs are indicated to help with internal balance.
