i was given two horses from a man that recently died so I,m just learning about horses by reading everything I can. I have called the only farrier around and he's going to fit me in as soon as possible but while I wait for him is there something I need to be doing? on the front hoofs about 2 inches down there are 2 small horizontal cracks. do I need to put some kind of sealer on it to keep it from spreading or can it get infected there? do I need to add a hoof hardner or hoof supplement or is there something I need to be rubbing on the hoof? any help and advice will be appreciated.
