My horse is a four-year-old registered quarter horse mare. The weight is appoximately 1000 lbs. She had a foal April 9, 2002. She is fifteen and a half hands high. Crack has been present in both front hooves since June 2002. Crack is in direct center and goes up to coronet band. She has had round horse shoes with clamps on since October of 2002. She is able to run, no limping. Vet thinks she will be rideable again. She is eating sweet feed (ranch horse) and hay. I am looking for a different farrier. The one I had put a chain around her gums and jerked on her mouth when she flinched in pain while he was shoeing her. I thought it unnecessary and very cruel. What kind of dressings or treatments would you suggest? The crack is not all the way through, but more than just a couple of layers. The cracks are starting to overlapp. She stays in a pasture. She gets put up at night in a stall. Any suggestions would be very helpful and welcome.
Thank you,
