about a week ago i went out to feed and had discovered that my mare had cut the front of her hock down to the white membrain over the joint. it was three inches across and was wide enought that the skin would not close . iwashed it out with cold water and put antisepit on it the next day her entire leg was swollen although she was bearing full weight on it and was only sensitive if i touched it.im new at horse owner ship although i have been riding all of my life. my husband is in iraq and we are limited on funds i was wondering if you could give me some info on when to take her to the vet or treat at home. im still not sure how she cut her leg but i found barb wire in her pddock. the padddock faces the street and i have alearted my neighbors of the incident it is saf to think that some one would want to hurt an animal so. thanks for listening
