Yeah, I thought that putting him down seemed extreme as well. He's eating fine, and puts weight on the hoof, only lame when trotting, or if I was riding him. I'm going to fly over another vet from another island (live in Hawaii, not too many equine vets here) for a second opinion. I even thought about flying the horse to California for treatment in an equine hospital (he's my top rope horse and hard to replace), but my vet said it wouldn't help if there is infection in the bone. Keeping our fingers crossed that the xrays show no bone infection.
