: I have a 2yr old Stallion who was chased by someone in a pick-up out in his pasture when I was not arround. He got his hoof/ankle caught in something and it cut pretty deep. When he was found and the vet took a look at him, he was not able to stand because of lose of blood. 2 small tendons were severed. The vet was able to find them and stich them back together. he recommened stall rest for 6 weeks and keep the leg wrapped for support. We did this and then my farrier recommened wedge shoes to help with the angle so the tendons could heal. It has now been 6 months and he is still limping noticeably. What do you recommend? Should I be using corrective shoes and if so what kind? Also his Heel/sole seems to be collapsing any advise would be great.
I would ask your veterinarian for a referral to a specialist. You may not be able to fully salvage this horse and I would need to see radiographs, pictures and videos to give you any direct help. You could have adhesions in the area, infection in the area, joint instability and arthritis, or a number of other problems.
